European Union's strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK)

EU BIK

The European Union's Better Internet for Kids (BIK+) strategy, adopted on May 11, 2022,, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at creating a safer and more empowering online environment for children and young people. Here are some key points about EU BIK:

  • Safety. Children have the right to a safe digital world. A new strategy is in place to protect them from harmful and illegal online content, conduct, and risks. The focus is on creating a safe, age-appropriate digital environment to enhance kids' well-being.

  • Accessibility. It means kids learn the skills and knowledge to make informed choices and express themselves safely and responsibly online.

  • Communication. Children are encouraged to actively participate in the digital environment and have a say. Child-led activities promote creative and safe digital experiences, respecting their voices and well-being.

The strategy includes plans for developing standard age assurance and verification methods in Europe, supporting rapid assessment of illegal and harmful content, and ensuring help for cyberbullying victims
